Who knows.Ĭontemporary depictions don’t stop there. Maybe the Dodo never had curved tail feathers, or the birds depicted were molting. However, the tail is, again, either a little stump, or is not depicted at all. The head on the far right is especially beautiful, and the depictions on the left give a picture of the Dodos body structure as a mix of plump and lean. These were apparently made of live and recently killed individuals. These were made around 1601, and are attributed to Joris Laerle, while the original artist is unknown as of writing this. These sketches were found in the travel journal of the dutch ship, Gelderland. Maybe we can get a better picture by looking at more contemporary depictions. Maybe the bird is female and thus doesn’t have them (unlikely, because pigeons have next to none sexual dimorphism), maybe the bird is molting (i guess?!), or perhaps the zookeepers cut them off (some aviaries do that to pheasants,or maybe it was the stress?). The Dodo in the painting doesn’t have the curved tail feathers seen in most depictions, which curiously is also mentioned in descriptions of the bird. The depiction however, has a surprise up its wings. Most modern paleoartists use this depiction as a “default” Dodo. The other birds on the painting are identifiable even today (Clock-wise from the upper left: Blue-crowned Hanging-parrot ( Loriculus galgulus), Western Tragopan (Tragopan melanocephlus), Painted sandgrouse (Pterocles indicus), and Bar-headed Goose (Anser Indicus)), so we can be pretty certain to say that the depiction is reliable and likely accurate, so we can assume that the painting depicts a live, adult, healthy Dodo. The animal is also a whole lot slimmer than Edward’s Dodo, and has a very different earth-toned colour scheme on the body. And surprisingly, some details mentioned by Herbert are visible, especially on the head region. The bird in the middle is, of course, a Dodo. It was made by Indian artist Ustad Mansur around 1625. This description is not only quite apt and not that far from an excellent depiction of any animal with admirable attention to detail, this description rings a bell, as it’s surprisingly similar to a contemporary artistic depiction. The half of her head is naked seeming covered with a fine vail, her bill is crooked downwards, in midst is the nostril, from which part to the end is a light green, mixed with pale yellow tincture her eyes are small and like to Diamonds, round and rowling her clothing downy feathers, her train three small plumes, short and inproportionable…” Her visage darts forth melancholy, as sensible of Nature’s injury in framing so great a body to be guided with complemental wings, so small and impotent, that they serve only to prove her bird. “… her body is round and fat, few weigh less than fifty pound…. Herbert (1634) did a very detailed depiction of the Dodo, which reads as follows: The tail consists of a few soft incurved feathers, which are ash coloured…”įrom this, we get a pretty good idea of the size of the Dodo, as well as details of the wing and tail feathers, which here are descibed as “ash coloured”, so maybe light or dark gray, and not white, Like they are usually depicted as. These birds lack wings, in the place of which 3 or 4 blackish feathers protrude. “… a kind, conspicuous for their size, larger than our swans, with huge heads only half covered with skin as if clothed with a hood. Van Warwijck (1598) Depicts the Dodo as follows: And besides from how it tasted (not that good, apparently), how do they depict the Dodo? So alas, we have to turn to contemporary depictions. This may not be the best depiction of a Dodo in its natural state. It doesn’t look like a healthy wild animal, but an overfed and bloated chicken or goose. The bird is chunky, and not in a good way. This painting is referred to as “Edward’s Dodo”, and it was made Roelant Savery in 1626. This is probably the best-known depiction of the Dodo, and what comes to mind for most people when thinking of the Dodo.

I'm curious as to why other software companies can provide compatible versions of their software BEFORE a new MacOS release, and Intuit can not. We read and track everything, and take any suggestions under consideration as we work to help support you and all of our other QuickBooks Mac users. You can also contact the development team from QuickBooks menu > QuickBooks Feedback. Please let me know if there are any other questions or concerns. Others have provided links to check on the most recent updates, and I’ll check back in here with you as soon as I can give you a better answer. I do understand the frustration that comes from waiting for verification of OS compatibility with QuickBooks Mac and/or an update, and that is on our minds as we are working quickly to complete all the checks and testing needed so we can officially get your software supported on Monterey. We are working to provide all users on supported versions an officially compatible QuickBooks Mac on Monterey ASAP. Unfortunately we can’t pre-announce exact dates but thank you for asking about compatibility now instead of immediately upgrading to the new OS and potentially encountering issues that could interrupt your workflow. We focus on providing support for OS upgrades as close to the public release dates as the testing allows, but can only make the claim of compatibility for a version of the product once we have tested thoroughly and have completed delivery of the update for any needed changes, however major or minor those changes might be. Our team is working to provide a stable and positive experience to our users who want to upgrade to the newest OS. After Apple officially releases the new OS (we learn the release date at the same time as you) we have to again test and qualify everything - as there are often last minute changes between the pre-release and release versions of the OS that also need to be accounted for and may cause different issues across the different product versions that require diagnosing, fixing, and retesting - before we can ship out any needed updates. The development team on QuickBooks Mac monitors all new macOS releases and tests all supported versions of QuickBooks Mac against the available beta versions of that OS in the months leading up to the public release. Hello, I work on QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. You can always get back to us if you have any other concerns with your program's compatibility. You can always visit this site to be updated with the latest enhancements with QBDT for Mac: What's new in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. Know that our engineers are working diligently to sort this matter, so we can support this new macOS version for other versions of QuickBooks. I'd recommend visiting the link attached to learn more about the macOS 11 Big Sur compatibility: Intuit’s support policy for QuickBooks for Mac running on macOS 11 Big Sur. Just make that the program is updated to the latest release. On the other hand, the QBDT Mac 2019 and 2020 is compatible with the macOS 11 Big Sur.
